The New City Catechism

BIG Idea
“God does not tolerate the worship of false idols. He is a jealous God who demands wholehearted devotion.”
God is concerned about His worship and His reputation. Because He is holy, He deserves all praise and glory; therefore, to neglect giving Him worship or to worship something else is a horrible, terrible sin. In order to worship God rightly, we must be sure to do so in accordance with the Bible.
Weekly Bible Passage and Monthly Memory Verse
Passage: Exodus 20
Monthly Memory Verse: “It is the LORD your God you shall fear. Him you shall serve and by his name you shall swear. You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are around you.” (Deuteronomy 6:13-14)
Prayer (ACTS Method)
These are ways to pray in light of the truth learned this week. Of course, pray for other things as a family!
· Adoration: Praise God for being the one true God.
· Confession: Confess when we have worshipped idols (including self!) and when we have neglected to worship God according to His Word.
· Thanksgiving: Thank God that He invites us to worship Him and that He grants us grace to do so in and through Christ by the power of the Spirit.
· Supplication: Ask God for grace to grow, intentionally, in worship.
