Creekside family,
These are certainly unique days that we are living in. None of us ever dreamed on January 1, 2020 that July would look as unique as it is.
On July 7, the Sumner County mayor issued an order that masks be worn in public. These are circumstances that none of us wish to live in. However, as Christians the Lord has told us to obey the government insofar as the government does not mandate something that is sinful.
Because of this, and so that our church might continue to meet as safely as possible, we are asking that individuals who come to Sunday morning worship gatherings wear a mask while in attendance. There are several reasons why the elders feel like this is the right decision for us to make as a church.
Government officials have asked for cooperation on this matter. We desire to be good citizens. We do not understand this to be a violation of our religious liberty or the first amendment. Wearing a mask does not deter from our worship together. We may do everything that we typically do on a Sunday morning and intend to continue doing it.
We want to love our neighbors and our community. Several outbreaks of the Coronavirus have been traced back to churches gathering together for worship. We would hate for the Creekside family to have to deal with something of this nature. We want to be a faithful witness to family and friends and that includes keeping a mind for their safety when it is possible and reasonable. We feel that this is one of those times.
Wearing a mask is a consideration for other people. Wearing a mask is a way we can count others as more significant than ourselves (Phil. 2:3). None of us likes the idea of wearing a mask. However, there might be times when it would be wise to err on the side of caution. The elders feel that this is one of those instances.
While much has changed in our world, there is still much that has remained the same. The Lord still reigns in heaven, the gospel is the good news of salvation to all who would believe, and Jesus Christ is worthy to be worshipped. I hope you will join with us in worshipping the risen Savior this Sunday.
The Elders of Creekside Fellowship.
