BIG Idea

“God desires that his people live in a way that glorifies him and shows his character to the world.”

In the opening pages of Genesis, we learn that God created man to reflect his image throughout all creation. Though we have sinned and fallen with Adam, believers in Jesus Christ are now conformed to look like Jesus himself. As we live on this side of heaven, the 10 Commandments provide for us the way that we reflect God as those who are being made like him. In this way, as we strive by grace in the power of the Spirit to follow the 10 Commandments, we glorify God and show his loving and righteous character to the world.

Weekly Bible Passage and Monthly Memory Verse

Passage: Exodus 20:1-17

Monthly Memory Verse: “It is the LORD your God you shall fear. Him you shall serve and by his name you shall swear. You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are around you.” (Deuteronomy 6:13-14)

Prayer (ACTS Method)

These are ways to pray in light of the truth learned this week. Of course, pray for other things as a family!

·      Adoration: Praise God that He has given us the privilege bear his image to all creation.

·      Confession: Confess when we bring reproach to our God in living in a way that contradicts his character.

·      Thanksgiving: Thank God that Jesus has fulfilled all of these commandments and now gives us grace to walk in them.

·      Supplication: Ask God for grace to grow in intentional opportunities to tell others about why we live the way we do.
