The New City Catechism

Question #37

Q. How does the Holy Spirit help us?

A. The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin, and he enables us to pray and to understand God’s Word.

BIG Idea

“God the Holy Spirit is at work in his people convicting them of sin, helping them understand and apply the Word, and helping them pray.”

Weekly Bible Passage and Monthly Memory Verse

Passage: Ephesians 6:10-20

Monthly Memory Verse: “16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” (John 3:16-18)

Prayer (ACTS Method)

These are ways to pray in light of the truth learned this week. Of course, pray for other things as a family!

·      Adoration: Praise God for the work of the Holy Spirit.

·      Confession: Confess when we do not think rightly about the Holy Spirit.

·      Thanksgiving: Thank God that he continues the work he began through the person of the Holy Spirit.

·      Supplication: Ask God to bless Sunday worship this week.
