The New City Catechism

Question #31

Q. What do we believe by true faith?

A. Everything taught to us in the gospel. The Apostles’ Creed expresses what we believe in these words: We believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy [universal] church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

BIG Idea

“There is one true faith that was handed down by the apostles.”

Weekly Bible Passage and Monthly Memory Verse

Passage: Jude 1-4

Monthly Memory Verse: “31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.” (Romans 8:31-34)

Prayer (ACTS Method)

These are ways to pray in light of the truth learned this week. Of course, pray for other things as a family!

·      Adoration: Praise God for the faith once for all handed down to the saints.

·      Confession: Confess when we entertain wrong views about God.

·      Thanksgiving: Thank God that He has provided His Word and teachers to explain it to us.

·      Supplication: Ask God for grace to know the Word of God better through the illuminating power of the Spirit.
