The New City Catechism

Question #22

Q. Why must the Redeemer be truly human?

A. That in human nature he might on our behalf perfectly obey the whole law and suffer the punishment for human sin.

BIG Idea

“The substitute sacrificed for our redemption had to be human.”

Weekly Bible Passage and Monthly Memory Verse

Passage: Hebrews 2:5-18

Monthly Memory Verse: “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.” (1 Timothy 2:5-7)

Prayer (ACTS Method)

These are ways to pray in light of the truth learned this week. Of course, pray for other things as a family!

·      Adoration: Praise God for the gift of His Son.

·      Confession: Confess our sins that required our salvation.

·      Thanksgiving: Thank God that Jesus went to the cross as our perfect Substitute.

·      Supplication: Ask God for grace to repent of our sin more and more.
