The New City Catechism

Question #24

Q. Why was it necessary for Christ, the Redeemer, to die?

A. Christ died willingly in our place to deliver us from the power and penalty of sin and bring us back to God.

BIG Idea

“There is no possible way for people to be reconciled to God except through the atoning death of Jesus.”

Weekly Bible Passage and Monthly Memory Verse

Passage: Colossians 1:15-23

Monthly Memory Verse: “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.” (1 Timothy 2:5-7)

Prayer (ACTS Method)

These are ways to pray in light of the truth learned this week. Of course, pray for other things as a family!

·      Adoration: Adore and praise God for his justice and his grace.

·      Confession: Confess sins that we might think are small, like white lies, being judgmental, or discontent.

·      Thanksgiving: Thank God that Jesus died for these sins that we think are small, costing him his very life.

·      Supplication: Ask God to bless the upcoming Christianity Explored class.
