BIG Idea

“The commandments are all about loving God and loving others.”

If we were to summarize the law of God in a statement, our BIG Idea gets it right! We are to love God and each other. How are we to do so? By following the 10 Commandments. The 6th, 7th, and 8th commandments show us various ways that we reflect our love for our God and for our neighbor. If we are to see a perfect example of these lived out, look no further than to the Lord Jesus Christ. He was, is, and always will be perfect! During His earthly ministry, He followed the law of God without error. He truly loved His neighbors and this was demonstrated, in part, by His keeping of the 6th, 7th, and 8th commandments. Because we have not kept them, Jesus died in our place and rose again, so that, upon placing our faith in Him, we would be accepted as though we did keep them. This Gospel is wondrously amazing!

Weekly Bible Passage and Monthly Memory Verse

Passage: Romans 13:8-10

Monthly Memory Verse: “It is the LORD your God you shall fear. Him you shall serve and by his name you shall swear. You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are around you.” (Deuteronomy 6:13-14)

Prayer (ACTS Method)

These are ways to pray in light of the truth learned this week. Of course, pray for other things as a family!

·      Adoration: Praise God for His care for the world.

·      Confession: Confess sins, like hate, impurity, and thievery (I.e. violations of the 6th, 7th, and 8th commandments!).

·      Thanksgiving: Thank God that Jesus has fulfilled all of these commandments and now gives us grace to walk in them.

·      Supplication: Ask God for grace to grow in loving our neighbors as Christ has loved us.
